SNK’s SAMURAI SHODOWN series is known as one of the best NeoGeo series ever, and now Xbox gamers can see what all the fuss is about with SAMURAI SHODOWN V. With a huge variety of fighters to pick from, amazing anime-inspired graphics, and many unlockable extras, the game is sure to be a hit in the fighting genre. Fights in SAMURAI SHODOWN V are one-on-one fights to the finish. Players have over two dozen characters to chose from, although some must be unlocked by defeating story mode. Returning characters include ninja master Hanzo, samurai Jubei, and swordsman Ukyo. They are joined by a few new fighters for game five, including Yoshitora, a warrior who fights with four swords, and Yumeji, who can use other fighters’ techniques against them. Each fighter has his or her own special moves in addition to the standard weak, medium, and strong slashes, punches, and kicks. These attacks inflict a ton of damage if the connect, but they also take longer to setup and execute. SAMURAI SHODOWN includes many of the standard fighting game modes like story, practice, and quick fight. It also features online play via Xbox Live. Players can set up quick matches, adjust the rules, or run their own tournament online. SAMURAI SHODOWN V has a lot going for it, and Xbox gamers who love fighting games are sure to enjoy it. The series may be one of the older names in the genre, but SAMURAI SHODOWN V proves it’s still going strong.
