After watching too many bad sci-fi movies, developers at THQ created DESTROY ALL HUMANS, an XBox game that puts a unique spin on the alien invasion story: instead of playing as the savior of mankind, players take on the role of Crypto Sporidium 137, an alien invader, and attack earth, aiming to literally destroy all humans and claim the planet in the name of the Furon race. Alien leader Pox has assigned Crypto to infiltrate earth and rescue Sporidium 136, a fellow Furon who has been captured. Crypto has three different methods of destroying monkeys (his term for humans): a laser gun, his psychic powers, and his flying saucer. Each has various upgrades available, and by the end of the game, players will be able to launch rockets, fire electric blasts, pick up objects and hurl them across the screen, shoot death rays, and even launch quantum blasts to level everything in Crypto’s path. While the main mission involves saving Sporidium 136 from the clutches of the anti-alien group called Majestic and investigating the Furon DNA detected in the human brain, there are several side quests available. These are key to unlocking other missions and purchasing upgrades. These missions involve achieving goals such as defeating a set number of enemies. and fun. Sci-fi fans will enjoy the game, especially with all of the humor and comedic references to the bad sci-fi movies of the 50’s and 60’s.
